A member asked:

Had a ct scan of chest and the results came back as this: although underdistended there is question for diffuse esophageal wall thickening. my gi dr says its most likely an ulcer and we have scheduled a upper endoscopy. does this make sense?

Hard to comment with no clinical context. First, the findings are questionable, so they will have to be confirmed and endoscopy’ will be the next logical step. With diffuse thickening, an ulcer would be somewhat low in the differential diagnosis as such changes will be expected to be focal.

Although it is not clear that this necessarily represents an ulcer, an upper endoscopy is a good idea whenever there is a thickening of the esophageal wall seen on CAT scan. Good luck.
