Good morning doctors. my cardiologist switched me from losartan to losartanhctz, as my blood pressure is still high. i am nervous--can i expect any reactions or surprises after being on the hctz, other than more frequent urination?

You should expect no new symptoms or side effects at all. Your urinary frequency probably will not increase very much, if at all.

I agree with Dr. Handsfield. This is a common practice and usually effective. If the Hctz dose is 25 mg, your urine volume may increase a little bit within several hours of taking the new med but no frequent urination afterwards. Allergy with Hctz with itching & rashes may occur but RARE. Metabolic side effects such as increased uric acid or triglycerides are less likely with dose of 25 mg or less
