Pelvic ultrasounds are typically ordered in non-reproductive age women when there is pelvic pain or abnormal bleeding. The endometrial stripe is measured to determine if there is uterine wall cancer. Fibroids are benign tumors of the uterine that can bleed and cause discomfort. Cysts may be a source of pain as well. The ordering provider can determine whether gynecology referral is indicated.
