Not always.: Anytime their is postmenopausal bleeding then an US evaluation of the uterine lining should be performed. If the endometrial stripe is more than 3-5 mm then an endometrial sample should be taken. This can usually be done in the office and does not require a D and C. Sometimes your doctor may want to insert a thin flexible camera into the uterus to further evaluate the lining.
