A member asked:

My cardiologist is prescribing me metropolol to treat accelerated idioventricular rhythm, correct me if i'm wrong but beta blockers shouldn't be used for treating aivr right?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

If you have no structural heart disease &your accelerated idioventricular rhythm doesn't have rapid rates, is not life threatening& is what is considered a benign physiological heart rhythm in young people, I would be concerned about suppressing this usually protective rhythm with any meds including beta blockers. I would like you to get an expert opinion from a cardiologist electrophysiologist
