I chipped my tooth a year ago and had a temporary cap put on until i could get a crown the cap fell off but abit of the tooth has gone i can tell because i chipped it halfway and it was very straight but now it's jagged and missing on one side. why?

The bonding agent that held it in place may have pulled a weak area in the tooth away when it fell off. It would be best to consult your treating dentist on the matter.

The tooth is breaking down further and further since it was never restored with a final restoration. A temp is good for a month or two, but not for a year plus. Have your dentist re-evaluate the tooth and see if it can be salvaged. Not is the time to correctly restore that tooth.

The operative word is Temporary. Temporary caps must be replaced ASAP. Failure to do so results in exactly the dilemma you find yourself in now. Please put down your screen, pick up your phone, and immediately call your Dentist.
