How are doctors/ scientists so certain that the covid vaccine is safe for small children when its such a new virus/vaccine? how do we know it wont cause harm later in life?

We do not. Go to CDC and read all about the risks and benefits in your child. Discuss with Dr and make your own decision. We also do not know if the child will be killed by a gun or auto either before being an adult. .

As a very pro-vaccine pediatrician I have watched the evolution of the vaccines in use. The absence of long-term studies makes predicting the effect 2 decades from now impossible. They look good, but I am not convinced children under 12 need them.
