A member asked:

Very good afternoon doctors. i read that the covid vaccine offers some level of protection after just the first dose.. is this correct? how safe would it be or not be to fly/travel10/12 days after taking just first dose?

Safer than if not: About 2 wks after a dose a majority of people will develop a protective level of antibodies, but not all & not to all emerging variants (like the SA strain). It takes that 2nd dose to bring it up to ~90+% in people. Even then, hand sanitizing/masks/etc. will still be needed to maximize protection.

COVID 19 vaccine: I believe you have written in before with this same question. We can't tell you that you would be safe flying / traveling 10 to 12 days after first dose of COVID 19 vaccine. The degrees of immunity gained at 14 days differ between the Pfizer vaccine and the Moderna vaccine. You would gain some level of immunity by day 10 or 12.
