Yes, blood sugar (glycemia) is usually higher when you have an acute infection because the fighting hormones in your body are hyperactive and these hormones often have hyperglycemic effect. In fact, during an acute infection, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is a poor prognostic sign because your fighting hormones have weakened.
