A member asked:

Is wisdom teeth removal a necessary surgery? hearing mixed opinions. have a small infection due to an impacted tooth prescribed antibiotics to help the infection go away, dentist said to have the removal but is it necessary?

Your Dentist is correct. Antibiotics will not cure your infection, only reduce severity and spread for as long as you take the pills. Once you stop the meds infection will probably recur. Seek consultation with a wisdom tooth expert, an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, the Dental specialist best trained and experienced to evaluate and treat your infection.

An impacted wisdom tooth can lead to serious infection and pressure and or cavity on tooth in front of it. You can't live on antibiotics, best have this tooth removed and any other wisdom teeth if so indicated.
