Find the cause: Swelling can be simple or complicated. It is best to rule out any medical cause. If there is none, diet and exercise work. Walking is the best. If you stand at work consider a proper shoe such as mbt. They exercise the calf muscles.

Depends: Depending on the cause of the swelling the treatment is different. The best advice is to see a vascular surgeon that has a special interest in venous and lymphatic disorders.

Diagnosis first: It's natural to want a treatment right away. Unfortunately, leg swelling can be caused by at least a dozen different diagnoses involving several body systems. See your doctor for a diagnosis. In the meantime, elevate your legs- gravity helps!

Leg Swelling: You should first see your Vascular Surgeon to determine the cause of the swelling which could range from heart issues to vein issues. A treatment regimen will then be determined that could be conservative such as compression stockings or leg elevation or an intervention such as vein ablation or arterial revascularization.

Many causes and RX.: Leg swelling is a common complaint with many causes including problems with the heart, lungs or kidneys, as well as medications, lymphedema, dvt, cellulitis, venous insufficiency and a host of other issues. There is also a difference in cause if the swelling is one side or bilateral. There are many treatments for swelling but the first step is to identify the cause. See a vein specialist or MD.
