A member asked:

My grandma fractured her hip a week ago and has bad swelling of the legs and feet, skin blisters, and open sores on legs/feet.she has yet to be treated.what can i do to help the swelling and pain? can we drain her feet at home? should she be sitting

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hospitalization: These problems are too serious for home care even with the help of a visiting nurse. A cause for the severe edema has to be determined and treated. . She needs wound care. Bear in mind that if the hip fracture isn't going to be repaired, she may never get out of bed again. Important decisions have to made by the physicians, patient and/or family.
