A member asked:

My recent ultrasound findings says i have thickened urinary bladder wall (7 mm) report conclusion: suggestive of cystitis. my doc said i have uti based on the urinalysis ( wbc plenty, 0-2 rbc). is the thickening bladder wall due to uti? is it mild?

Bladder wall thickness , if uniform, develops over time when there is an obstruction to the outflow of urine, in any area from the neck of the bladder to the tip of the urinary tube and relatively rare in females.. Cystitis is an inflammation of the lining of the bladder and does not cause such thickening. Pl see a Urologist for proper management.

The UTI will have to be treated properly and follow up will be needed in order to clarify if there is a different condition affecting bladder mucosa. Your doc remains your best reference and will be able to coordinate as needed.
