Referred to ent for possible etdappt many weeks away. tinnitus, stuffy ears, off-balance feeling, headache. brain mri ruled out serious conditions. in meantime, can i take otc med to unclog ears? how long would zyrtec or similar take to work?

It may or may not even help. ETD happens when the Eustachian tube swells with allergic stimulation or a URI. When the tube is blocked by the swelling. mucus made in the middle ear cannot flow to the throat & air cannot enter the middle ear to keep it normal. Antihistamines may thicken mucus & even slow improvement. ETD stops when the irritation resolves. Your body fixes it/not meds.
