Negative albuminuria rules out primary kidney problem but systemic diseases which cause other type of proteins in the urine, e.g. light chain, can be present. Severe cystitis can also produce significant protein (immunoglobulin types) in the urine and they are measured in total proteinuria by quantitative test. Again, (-) albuminuria rules out glomerulopathy.

Proteinuria in a child should be investigated by a Nephrologist for there can be many conditions which can cause this. Good luck
