Mycoplasma genitalium is sexually transmitted, causes urethritis in men and maybe cervicitis and PID in women. All other mycoplasmas and ureaplasma species are normal genital bacteria. They are sexually transmitted in that sex partners often share them, but harmless, rarely if ever causing symptoms or disease. CDC, the American STD Association, and other experts recommend against testing for them.
