A member asked:

Had a mycoplasma and ureaplasma vaginal swab test done while i was on nitrofurantoin for something unrelated. can this possibly cause false negative?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Nitrofurantoin is used almost exclusively for either the treatment or prevention of a lower urinary tract infection (aka bladder infection, cystitis). It has no activity that I am aware of against either mycoplasma or ureaplasma and would therefore not cause a false negative vaginal swab test for these 2 organisms.
