A member asked:

Is it normal for your resting heart rate to go way up during a virus? for example, my resting heart rate is normally under 65 bpm...i'm currently sick with a bad cold-like virus (no fever though) and my heart rate (at rest) has been in the 80s/90s?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Illnesses of many sorts trigger the release of stress hormones and other factors. They also raise body temperature, all of which pushes the heart rate up to push the bloods healing factors through the body. Fever by itself raises the heart rate by ~10 beats/min/degree. Without fever, the stress hormones like adrenalin do even more.
