Illnesses of many sorts trigger the release of stress hormones and other factors. They also raise body temperature, all of which pushes the heart rate up to push the bloods healing factors through the body. Fever by itself raises the heart rate by ~10 beats/min/degree. Without fever, the stress hormones like adrenalin do even more.
