A member asked:

A 80 year old man who has had a fall, broke neck, and he managed to walk 25 metres with a cervical spinal cord injury immediately after the fall, would it be the case that his cervical spinal cord injury was not life-threatening before he walked?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Initially, this was obviously not critical, but maximal swelling occurs within 24-36 hrs, and the narrow spinal canal will result in increasing compression and cord damage if not decompressed surgically or medically. You are commended for looking at the bright side, and hope eventual outcome results in improvement.
