I would assume you came to ER with an abdominal pain. If that initial lipase level had been accurate you definitely had a CT of the abdomen done for confirming or ruling out acute pancreatitis. If you had a normal pancreas by CT and the lipase level after 30 hours is normal, pancreatitis is ruled out. In that case, the first lipase result could be questionable. How were the amylase levels though?

That marked elevation of lipase that became normal in less than 2 days does raise suspicion of lab error. Gastroenteritis can cause significant elevation of serum lipase but I think the elevation would last longer than 30 hours. However I would like to ask a lab director if nonpancreatitis lipase elevations, such as in gastroenteritis,can quickly fall. Perhaps they can.
