A member asked:

Was prescribed cephalexin for a "small amount of bacteria" found in a urinalysis. i have been on it for 3 days and feel its gone by now. will it be harmful to continue to take the antibiotic even if i feel there is no infection?

A treatment duration is defined by research to be one that kills off the germs in most cases without missing any that would start the infection again. Failure to finish the planned duration is a common cause of such re-lapses. Do so at your own risk. I always finish it.

'small amount of bacteria' in UA is not an infection unless you have symptoms or a urine C&s is positive. I would ask the doc about that. Always ask your MD what you have, what the med is for and how long you should take it. If you did have any sypmptoms then complete the course. Drink plenty of water
