Can an inner ear infection cause a brain infection and/or abscess while the tympanic membrane looks normal? a middle ear infection has an effect on the tympanic membrane, right?

The middle ear portion extends out too the tympanic membrane (or ear drum). Sometimes fluid is trapped within this space may become infected. The inner ear is deeper and involves cochlea and semicircular canals. There are pathways that can possible make its way within brain, though not the typical case. If you are concerned see either your primary doc, or an Ears, nose and throat specialist.

Relax! If you had a true inner ear infection due to bacteria, and a secondary meningitis, and/ or brain abscess, you would be severely impaired, requiring hospitalization. If you have ear symptoms, see an otolaryngologist.
