The middle ear portion extends out too the tympanic membrane (or ear drum). Sometimes fluid is trapped within this space may become infected. The inner ear is deeper and involves cochlea and semicircular canals. There are pathways that can possible make its way within brain, though not the typical case. Relax! If you had a true inner ear infection due to bacteria, and a secondary meningitis, and/ or brain abscess, you would be severely impaired, requiring hospitalization. If you have ear symptoms, see an otolaryngologist.
