Could the fact that i'm eating a large amount of protein daily (more than the recommended amount) be a direct result of significant weight loss? i do exercise every other week, but lately i've been consuming a large amount of protein. could it be?

I assume you are a healthy person. If you're pretty much restricting or eliminating carbohydrates and especially fats in your diet, significant weight loss would occur so it would be only an indirect effect of your high protein diet.
