If you rarely eat iron rich foods or adequate protein in foods daily, can this contribute to ongoing/chronic hair loss?

No. Go to uptodate.com and read about hair loss. However starvation and some vitamin problems from not eating a proper diet can cause this. I would use the app Cronometer and track what you are eating to see if you are eating is such a way that you have a vitamin problem. This is rare in US.
