A member asked:

I have chest pain/tightness mostly in the upper left area, sometimes closer to my heart. it mostly happens when i'm anxious and thinking about death, so is it from anxiety? my primary doctor did a ekg and it came back normal?

You do not provide adequate details about your chest pain, but given your age, unlikely that this represents pain of cardiac origin. It could well be from anxiety. A normal ECG is reassuring but cannot always be used to confirm or rule out a cardiac problem. A detailed history and examination are the most important first steps. Further discussion may provide reassurance from your doctor.

The circumstances are suggesting anxiety as involved in your chest pressure. Make sure you follow up with your primary care doc to have anxiety addressed and further work up as needed.

It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Drink more water. Wish you good health!
