Ejection Fraction: It sounds like you hida scan with Kinevac (generic name sincalide) for gallbladder ejection determination. This scan allows for evaluation of gallbladder emptying. Sometimes hida scan alone appears normal, but gallbladder is not functioning (emptying) well, which can cause pain (possibly spasms). Amount of emptying is called the ejection fraction and normal is generally greater than 50%.

Usually normal: Gbef is the response of gall bladder to cck(cholecystokinin) with its contraction. Usually greater than 35% is considered normal. If ultrasound exam of gall bladder shows no stones or other findings this is usually true. If patients' symptoms are classic for biliay colic or pain, there are a few patients with normal studies that benefit from surgery. Some consider > 70% gbef possibly hyperkinetic.
