I recently had ankle hardware removal surgery from a previous fracture. i was told to elevate the foot. how long should i do this for? is there a diminishing return since the normal blood flow is part of the healing process?

You can elevate the foot for a long duration . Blood circulation continues to it normally despite elevation and will not affect healing.
