Pulmonary embolism describes a spectrum of conditions caused by blood clots in the lungs. Symptoms following diagnosis are variable from no symptoms to sudden death, with chest pain and shortness of breath among the most common symptoms experienced. Location, size and number of clots, comorbidities, time to diagnosis and treatment are only few variables involved in the extent of symptoms/ outcome.
