I was diagnosed with a abscessed tooth on 9/13 at my doc. she placed me on amoxicillin. i started it twice a day and my face is still swollen but not any worse and no fever. do i need different antibiotic? dentist appt is already made but weeks away?

Amoxicillin is one of the most often used antibiotics for dental abscesses and should calm down the infection some. The swelling is unlikely to fade until you get the abscessed tooth removed and the pus pocket with it. You might find a dentist that would get you in sooner.

Too long. Antibiotic will not cure a dental infection, only reduce its severity and limit its spread for only as long as you continue to take the antibiotic. Probability is when you run out of pills infection will come roaring right back. If your Dentist cannot see you before pills run out, ask to be referred to an Endodontist, a root canal specialist, who can remove the source of the infection.
