Abscessed tooth will not always respond to Amoxicillin, and chlorhexidine will not be effective with an abscess. Suggest calling your primary care physician and ask him/her to request an earlier appointment with the oral surgeon, or go to an ED for treatment, where an oral surgeon is on call. Dental abscesses can become significant health hazards if delayed in treatment.

Sounds like you need 2 things, a different Oral Surgeon and a different antibiotic. Your General Dentist should be able to help you get your problem treated. General Physicians are great, but they are not proficient at treating problems like yours. Isn you don't have a General Dentist. you'll have to call other Oral Surgeons for a quicker appointment.
