Other than fever and flushed skin (bright red), if he is not itching +/- shortness of breath he should be OK just to take Motrin as needed q 6 hours. However, if he develops shortness of breath, you need to take him to the closest hospital. If has fever and itching without respiratory symptoms, you can add Benadryl OTC 25 mg, three times a day.

Keep him well hydrated, monitor temperature, and usually the post vaccination symptoms subside. An allergic reaction may include trouble breathing, swallowing and other systems. If you are concerned, please see your physician or an urgent care center.

If he is comfortable, eating and drinking and looking red but well, please continue fluids, regular diet, and ibuprofen or acetaminophen for discomfort. If he is uncomfortable or unwell (hard to tell if he is red all over), please make a stop for urgent care. Otherwise you may proceed to your destination and make him comfortable there.
