A member asked:

Ive had left flank pain and severe nausea, vomiting. all bloods normal except one of the enzymes is elevated associated with pancreatitis. what does it mean if only 1 of the two enzymes is elevated? its either lipase or amylase that is elevated?

It is hard to diagnose that without an exam and maybe further testing. I suggest you pursue with your doctor if more tests are needed to daignose and treat your symptoms.

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, it would have helped if you had provided the actual result. The usual criterion is for amylase/lipase to be more than three times the upper limit of normal. Wish you good health!
