A member asked:

During a focal aware or simple partial seizure would the person be 100% functional (as in for example able to take a shower or wash hands etc and respond) or no?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A true focal epileptic seizure may allow some repetitive, almost ritualistic, activity, but then may generalize with completely altered level of consciousness. All true epileptic states are associated with some degree of altered awareness, and typically complex cognitive function is clearly blunted. If not the case, a question of "non-epileptic seizures" could be asked.
