Patients with simple partial seizures remain awake and aware throughout the seizure, and some patients can even talk during the episode.

By definition, a simple partial seizure involves focal dysfunction such as shaking of an arm and/or leg on one side. The activity does not generalize usually, and if it remains as described, is not associated with loss of consciousness. However, potential for generalization is present, and such episodes should preclude driving, activity at heights, power equipment, until treatment controls.
