A member asked:

Is mri safe after scoliosis fusion surgery? had surgery in 2001 in uk (rods and screws) years ago was told they can't say they're 100% sure of material(missing records) now told mri safe as likely titanium. what if it's not ti? is it generally safe?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Key with a magnetic imaging process involves "Ferrous metal" which would be mobilized in presence of impulses. Chances are that your metal is non-ferrous, and conceivably titanium. But, cannot be absolutely certain as 20 yrs. Discuss with several radiologists and get your physician involved. A CAT scan could be used if this cannot be resolved.
