If there is a lesion at this lumbar level, sitting can produce more pressure on the disc which can produce more pinching on the nerve root leading to your lower extremity. Standing can also produce pressure but may not be as severe as when you sit. Check with your doctor to make sure there is no need for further imaging and more aggressive treatment.
