A member asked:

Does superficial melanoma change in 2 years? and does it start as a raised mole? i have had a mole for atleast couple years idk how long i ripped it off and would really like some help as i cant see a dermatologist i have been to clinic and pharmacy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Melanomas can start on a flat lesion or on a raised mole. It’s important to have clear that melanomas and skin cancers are not born bc you ripped off a lesion. It’s the opposite, lesions that bleed or ITCH are more likely to be skin cancers or melanomas.Use a sunscreen&cover it,take a pic every month&ask if a general surgeon could biopsy it to send to pathology( bc you can’t see a derm)
