A member asked:

I ripped off a tan mole a couple weeks ago and now there is a white area where it was and pink surrounding it. i am terrified i took off a melanoma j cant see a dermatologist for months it did bleed when i took it off but stopped quickly?

Without a biopsy, it’s impossible to know what is left from the lesion you removed. However, most melanomas are dark, not just tan. Take a pic of the area every month, cover it with sunscreen and clothing, and ask your PCP if their office or a general surgeon could biopsy the area while you wait for the Dermatologist.
