My 15 year old daughter woke up this morning feeling that it was hard to swallow saliva and takes a long time to do so. she also feels a lump in her throat near her thyroid. water wont help. and she also has a headache?

In cases of swollen throat and difficulty swallowing, an in person exam is vital. A Dr can look into her throat and see if there are tonsils obstructing the area or a swollen epiglottis or any number of other findings. Call her pediatrician and ask for an urgent appointment today.

Agree with Dr Kratzberg that your daughter needs to be seen. Most likely she has a viral infection, and very well could have mono. It is important to be seen to make the proper diagnosis and for proper treatment if necessary.
