A member asked:

Two firm (non-moveable when pressed), rubbery painless submandibular lymph nodes for about one month. dr did a cbc which showed a low wbc (3.0). what could cause this and is the wbc related to the nodes?

My impression from the little infomation you gave me is that you may be feeling normal submandibular glands or your repeated feeling of them has irritated. This WBC can be normal in African Americans and some families but you did not provide your ethnicity or a family history. Discuss with your Dr. again and then get back with us.

The submandibular lymph nodes drain the mouth and throat of lumph and are a collecting house for any infectious agents which are active in those areas, a sore throat, an infected tooth, in flammed gums or tongue can all give rise to the swelling of the nodes. In the presence of infection the white blood cell count is often raised.
