A member asked:

Would repeat liver function blood tests ast/alt every year rule out liver disease? i've heard blood can be normal in liver disease. after my 2 pregnancies, i lessened my alcohol to 4-6 drinks per week. but prior to kids i drank heavily for ~9 years?

Not ruling it out, but sending early distress signals. Alcohol induces liver enzymes making interpretation difficult and liver enzymes remain in general a poor indicator of chronic liver injury, keeping alcohol at a minimum remains critical in the long run.

Quit drinking while you are ahead. Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it. Normal AST/ALT does not exclude some disorders, e.g., liver cancer. For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs. Get HPV & Hep B vaccine.
