If there is not enough space for the tooth to erupt correctly, it will find a place to do so. The tooth may rotate, or find other space available, to erupt. Canines coming out higher likely did not have enough space. By expanding the bones, the teeth can be guided into the right place using braces. If the dental arch (bone) is too small, the airway is often small, too. Best to have both checked.

He will need to be assessed by his dentist as to what the best treatment would be, relatively common problem otherwise, either impacted or ectopic canines, orthodontics or braces may be needed.
