Im on day 7 of covid. the dr prescribed azithromycin 5 pack to take to prevent pneumonia. i cant swallow pills so i cut them in half. is that okay? one half was already half way dissolved before i was able to fully swallow. it was basically melted?

Azithromycin will be equally effective taken this way, as long as most of each dose is swallowed. Whether it will do any good is uncertain. Bacterial pneumonia, which might be prevented by azithromycin, is uncommon in paitents with COVID-19, and taking antibiotic ahead of time could raise the chance of pneumonia resistant to antibiotics. All in all, probably not much risk, but discuss w/ doctor.

Agree with Dr HH, & you could also ask the prescribing Dr to prescribe liquid azithromycin instead, so you can swallow it.
