Er doctor prescribed azithromycin (1x500 mg a day) and acetylcystein as covid-19 treatment for a mild (strong mild though) covid in elderly with risk factors. treatment for 5 days. is it a good choice? can it at least help?

These are typical and common treatments and will probably at least help. Monitor oxygen saturation with a pulse oximeter (available at the drugstore if you don't have one) and get help if it drops below 90%. Good luck!

The treatment of choice is monoclonal antibodies for elderly patient with risk factors if the symptoms occurred less than 5 days ago. Azithromycin and Acetylcystein may give some protection if your relative has significant chronic lung disease. In general, Covid-19 infection is not treated with antibiotic unless superimposed bacterial infection is suspected by blood test.
