Part of work up: A cystoscopy is part of the work up recommended for hematuria and finding of atypical cells on microscopy with bladder pathology, including cancer possible and needing to be ruled in or out. Your worries are understandable otherwise and you should discuss them with your treating urologist and primary care doc.

To be checked: if cytology was done for micro hematuria you may undergo a cystoscopy. you don't need gen anesthesia. It can be done in uro. office under local anesthesia. another option is to repeat u.a. and cytology in 4 weeks to make sure it was not false positive.
