36 yr male non smoker no family history or cancer. i had a sputum cytology done and out of three samples one came back atypical. had a ct scan two weeks before and it was clear. what does this mean?

Unknown: The word atypical is ambiguous and its meaning is just what it says. "atypical". What comes next is the pathologist's diagnosis or recommendation there is no way to give you any valid medical answer since any comment about this would be guessing. Ask your physician to explain what the pathologist meant specifically.

Repeat Sputum Test: Repeat the sputum cytology in 3 months. No need to repeat the cat scan unless it showed 4 -6 mm nodule.

Repeat with TB test: I would agree that a sputum cytology and cultures should be repeated in 2 to 3 months. A TB test is advised and if there is another abnormal cytology or positive TB test, a bronchial lavage should be performed at that time.
