Depends on diagnosis: It depends why they are doing the ultrasounds. If they are looking for a mass in your intestines or pelvic area, then they may advise you to fast. If this is for a pregnancy, then no fasting is needed. Talk to the ordering Dr's office for specific instructions.

Yes & full bladder: Yes, you should fast for about 12 hours but water is OK. They also might prefer you have a full bladder for the the external part of the pelvic exam. This gives them a better window on the pelvic organs. So don't urinate before going in. They will let you know if you can pee when you get there or if they want to keep your bladder full. They will ask you to empty your bladder for the transvaginal.

Ask Test Center: The very best and knowledgeable person to ask about fasting prior to the abdominal US or not is either your ORDERING physician or the facility where the tests will be done. Usually patients receive a PRE-PROCEDURAL INSTRUCTION sheet which tells how to prepare for SPECIFIC exams. If you've not received one call the diagnostic center. They can probably email one to you. Cheers!
