Observation: Monitor status from day to day. Sounds like a minor head injury, and the soreness fits more with strains and bruising, not fractures or severe consequences. Maintain good hydration, dietary measures, stretching and gentle exercise. Can use local warmth after the first 24-36 hrs. If he continues to improve, no reason for alarm. If instead he worsens, then contact physician. Also, NO ladders.

Cautious watching: Any direct head impact is concerning. for ANY mental or neurologic change, he should be immediately evaluated by a physician. He should be awoken during the night each hour for the first night. Any pupil size difference should be cause alarm and concerng.
