Instruments: Instruments are cleaned and sterilized after each patient. I'm sure your Dentist placed a sterilized tip into the sterilized ultrasonic scaler before he used it to treat you. I'm also sure he has more than one tip in his armamentarium, all of which are cleaned and sterilized between use. If concerned, discuss this with your Dentist.

Universal Precaution: Dental offices practice universal precautions... they assume everyone has an infectious disease whether they do or not. All instruments (including the ultrasonic tip) are thoroughly cleaned and steam sterilized between patients. There is absolutely no dentist that wants the publicity of patients getting sick in their office. Worry not.
