A member asked:

Having lower stomach pain and lower back pain. cat scan shows spina bifida occults at s1 level and fat containing umbilical hernia 1.2 cm in diameter. are these serious issues. would this explain stom pain and back pain?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

I doubt: The CT findings look like incidental findings. Spinal bifida oculta indicates defect in the bones around the spinal cord, if there is no other coexisting abnormality otherwise it would not cause any of the pains. The back pain may be like anybody else without spinal bifida oculta. Fat in umbilical hernia also is not the cause of your abdominal pain and neither defect is concerning to me.
